Mr. Nyman is responsible for deal flow development, investment selection and analysis, transaction pricing, structuring, and portfolio management. Mr. Nyman is a member of Smith Whiley’s Investment Committee and the Preclearance Committee, he also serves as a board member and board observer for certain of the partnerships' portfolio companies.
Prior to joining Smith Whiley in September of 2007, Mr. Nyman spent over 22 years in alternative assets and private placements, investing in excess of $4 billion. Mr. Nyman spent 10 years at Hartford Investment Management Company ("HIMCO"), a subsidiary of The Hartford, where he was a Senior Vice President and Co-Head of the Alternative Asset Group. Prior to that, Mr. Nyman worked 16 years at Aetna, Inc. For nine years, he was a Managing Director in the Private Placement Group. Additionally, while at Aetna Mr. Nyman was a Portfolio Manager responsible for $18 billion in assets, He worked in Investment Planning, and was Chief of Staff for the CFO of a division of Aetna. Prior to that Mr. Nyman worked as the Controller of Dairy Mart Incorporated and spent four years as a senior financial analyst at Combustion Engineering.
Mr. Nyman has a B.S. from Bryant University and an M.B.A. from the University of Hartford.
